Twin Moons
It has been 6 months since I was born. I’m already able to turn around in bed, as well as sit up.
I’m actually already able to talk as well. I tried vocalising when there wasn’t anybody left in the room.
“Ahー, ahー, a i u e o a o1. Just kidding. I can already talk huh”
But, since my growth is unthinkable for an ordinary infant after all, and it’ll just surprise my family, I decided to pretend I can’t talk just in case.
Since Okaa-san thinks I’m able to understand what she says, she talks to me about all kinds of things. I managed to collect a decent chunk of this world’s knowledge thanks to that.
More importantly, there were 2 things I was surprised by. First is the reality that this Moon City is floating in the sky. Okaa-san carried and showed me the outside from the palace’s second-floor window. I ended up unwittingly making a 「Uwaaー」 voice. Okaa-san was surprised as well.
“Tsukuyomi! You! Did you, just say ‘waーa‘?”
For the time being, I simply looked at the view outside, making no more noise in order to bluff my way through.
That view was stunning. I’d thought that the palace would naturally be built on the land. But that wasn’t the case; it had been built on an island-that-floats-in-the-sky-ish land. That’s why you can see a bit of the sea in the lower world, and in front of that is a stretch of the continent.
When I look from a different window, on this floating land, there are mountains, and there are forests. Plains and fields. Lakes and large ponds as well. It’s way too big to call an island. That is floating in the sky. Well, it’s a land called the Moon City where Gods reside after all. I guess it’s only natural for it to be big.
In the first place, it’s a different world from Earth, so there are going to be such things as well. I had no choice but to forcefully convince myself with that. Also, Okaa-san told me that by the foot of that mountain, right next to the forest, is the mansion where Ojii-san resides.
Another one is this world’s moons. There are two moons. If it’s just that, then it’s not anything unusual since there are planets that have multiple natural satellites in the solar system with Earth.
But, the moons here are floating while slowly revolving around each other. In other words, twin moons. Furthermore, one of those moons has a ring like Saturn.
That’s not the only thing that surprised me. Both the moons are big. So big I feel a sense of intimidation when I see it for the first time. It’s not just tens of times the moon you see on Earth. It’s a thousand times or more.
So much so that I have trouble understanding why it hasn’t fallen down even though it’s that big. The whole time, I’ve been watching it without taking my eyes away. I can look at it forever. It’s an unbelievably beautiful, fantasy-like appearance.
And then it has a somewhat ‘nostalgic’ feeling, plus, it feels like I’ve seen it before somewhere.
Because I kept on looking at it with overly great interest, Okaa-san told me a folktale fairytale-like story while carrying me.
“Once upon a time, there were 3 moons floating around this star. One day, God-sama went, ‘I cannot fall asleep when the night sky is so bright with 3 whole moons floating! Alright, I shall get rid of 2 moons'”
“I just have to use the power I possess, make 2 of the moons collide with each other and bounce away. Saying that, they clashed the two moons powerfully, and……doーn!”
Okaa-san is quite the performer. She’s telling the story while also inserting body and hand gesture performance. I end up unwittingly, looking up at her face. She’s a person who’s a beauty but has somewhat adorable sides.
“When they clashed, one of the moons crumbled into pieces, rained onto this star, and tons of towns and forests were burnt and lost. The other moon was also significantly gouged out, and those fragments started going around that moon and became a ring”
“And then because of that impact, the remaining two moons’ trajectory changed, got close, attracted each other, and became the twin moons now”
“‘Ooh! Tons of towns and forests, civilians were lost because of my selfishness.’ God-sama reflected, and never tried to reduce the moons ever again……the end”
“Ohーohー”
In order to convey my commendation to Okaa-san, I raised my voice with a smile. Perhaps Okaa-san got happy from my smile, she hugged me tightly and kissed me on the cheek.
“Tsukuyomi. This story about the moons is real, you know. A God who achieves true power can seemingly move even the moon. You have been said to possess enormous power by Gyougetsu-sama”
“Who knows, you might have the power to go as far as to move the moon. Please use them in the correct way, alright”
“Uーuー”
I made a serious-looking face, grabbed Okaa-san’s finger, and responded.
Nevertheless, it’d be quite something if the story just now were real. Ojii-san did say that we’re able to carry up heavy objects and send them flying. I suppose the rest is the mass of the object I can move, and whether I can send them flying will change depending on the amount of power. Nevertheless, moving the moon is, as expected, dubious.
Well then, I wonder how I move items. ‘Without touching them with my hands.’, right. As I stared at the vase on the flower stand in the corner of the room, I thought, ‘let’s try whether I can move the cut flowers in the vase that I believe are roses’.
I wonder what do I do to be able to make it float? Don’t tell me I just have to envision it inside my head or something!
After deciding on a single stalk amongst the roses, I tried concentrating and staring fixedly at it, and envisioning the image of the rose floating up in the air inside my head.
Immediately after, a single stalk of rose slid right out from the vase and floated up exactly as I thought. When I carry on to direct it in Okaa-san’s direction, the rose levitates in the air and moves unsteadily to where Okaa-san is.
Okaa-san watched that from start to finish, and when the rose approached herself, she placed both hands on her mouth and opened her eyes widely. When I carried on to stop its movements right before Okaa-san’s bosoms, Okaa-san looked at my face, smiled sweetly and received it by embracing the rose with both hands.
“Tsukuyomi. Thank you!”
I gave her a smile back.
“Nina! Did you see that just now!”
“Yes! Armeria-sama. Tsukuyomi-sama exhibited his powers 6 months after being born!”
“Nina. I will bring Tsukuyomi-sama and go and report it to Gento-sama!”
“Yes. I think Gento-sama will be delighted as well”
Carried by Okaa-san, I was hurriedly brought to Otou-san’s room.
“Gento-sama! Excuse me”
“Umu. Oh, Armeria. Why are you in such a fluster?”
“Tsukuyomi, he used his power for the first time. He sent this rose flying in the sky to where I was from the vase!”
“Ooh! Is that for real! That is amazing, isn’t it!”
“Yes. Even though Tsukuyomi has still only been born for 6 months”
“This is exactly as Chichiue said; he sure has been blessed with immense power huh”
“Eeh, that seems to be the case”
“Tsukuyomi. You really are amazing. Aah, Armeria. It means Tsukuyomi is hearing and understanding what we are saying, right?”
“Yes. I think so. After talking about and letting him hear the story about the moons just now, he responded happily as well after all”
“I see. Well then, Tsukuyomi. Let’s teach you how to use your powers. Please nod your head if you are okay with it”
I nodded my head, ‘un‘.
“Umu. As I thought, he sure understands huh”
And then, the training on how to use my powers by Otou-san began.
Since I’m still, only born for 6 months, the training starts with floating and moving light objects. As I thought, it seems how clearly you’re able to visualise it in your head is important. The rest is the mass you can move changes based on the amount of power you have.
It’s exactly as I thought. But I get sleepy when I use my powers. As I thought, it looks like it consumes stamina. After doing it for a whole 30 minutes, I ended up becoming drowsy.
“Gento-sama, Tsukuyomi looks like he is already getting exhausted and sleepy. Could we wrap it up around here for today?”
“Ooh! You’re right. He’s still only been born for 6 months after all. Nevertheless, he’s incredible”
Okaa-san asked me while we were returning to the room.
“Tsukuyomi. The training ended up starting out of nowhere, but are you alright with it?”
After looking at Okaa-san’s eyes, I nod, ‘un‘.
“Does Tsukuyomi want to quickly become capable of using your powers?”
I nodded to her the same.
“I see. It is fine if Tsukuyomi wishes for it”
After returning to the room and being laid on the bed, I carried on to fall straight asleep.
Since then, I have 2 roughly 30 minutes of training daily, in the morning and afternoon. It seems we’re raising my precision by meticulously repeating the same thing. And then we increased the load bit by bit.
What I’m capable of increases every day, I can actually feel that my power is becoming stronger as well, and the training is fun.
It still, only happens occasionally, but there are times I understand what Otou-san is thinking about. I end up hearing the words he’s thinking about in his head, like ‘let’s try to let him do that next’, or ‘I wonder how I should teach this’. I wonder if it’s the power called ‘telepathy’?
Speaking of which, this ‘power’, I realised it’s the thing called ‘psychic ability’ on Earth. I initially thought, ‘maybe it’s magic?’, so I thought there was no way I’d be able to do it, but after thinking about it once as something that exists on Earth, I got somewhat comfortable with putting it into action, and it came to feel like I could do anything.
I wonder what kind of ‘psychic ability’ is there that I’ve heard of before on Earth? What I initially did were, the things called ‘telepathy’ and ‘psychokinesis’. It’s the power to move objects without touching them.
Other than that, I guess there’s levitation, clairvoyance, teleportation, and also pyrokinesis, which ignites things, and I’ve heard of healing and see-through vision as well.
Something unconventional would be like psychometry or something huh. If I’m not wrong, it reads the thoughts of the deceased and objects.
Although I don’t know how far I can actually take things, it’ll be interesting if I can actually do it.
Ah! If I’m capable of levitation, I can go wherever I like even though I still can’t even stand up.
Let’s maybe give it a bit of a try……it should work if I can just visualise my body floating in the sky.
I try envisioning the image of my body floating in the sky in my head. Immediately after, my body slowly floats up from the bed. It’ll be painful if I fall, so I’m taking my time going up bit by bit. I immediately descend all the way close to the ground after crossing the bed’s railing and fly at a super low height where I’m barely above the ground all the way to the window.
I raised my altitude again after I came all the way to the window, and I sat at the window frame, my goal. Arrived! I did it, I did it! I’m able to move anywhere I like from now on even if I can’t walk.
I was sitting at the window frame and staring at the moon for a bit. I don’t get tired of it no matter how much I look at it. It really is beautiful. I noticed it because I’m looking at it closely today, but the ring of one of the twin moons’ moon comes off lightly coloured in a pale rainbow colour. It looks like the colour is changing gradually like an aurora.
I’m sure it’s probably because of the refraction of light. Just as I’m enjoying such things by myself,
“Tsukuyomi! You, why are you there!”
Ah. This is bad. Okaa-san ended up coming back. What do I do. I can’t be explaining with my mouth yet. It can’t be helped.
I resolved myself and did the levitation the same as the time I came and returned all the way to the bed.
Okaa-san placed her hands on her mouth and was surprised in her same-old pose.
“What in the world……”
She muttered, and she ended up leaving the room as is. I suppose she probably went to report to Otou-san. The two of them came back accompanied by maids as well after a while.
“Tsukuyomi. Is it true, that you became capable of levitation?”
I nodded, ‘un‘.
“Wha-, what! Ple-, please show me”
Since Otou-san said so, I floated all the way near the ceiling and slowly returned right there and then.
“H-, he’s a genius!”
“What in the world!”
Both Otou-san and Okaa-san are opening their eyes widely. The maids’ complexions are ghastly pale. Grasping both their hands tightly in front of their chests.
Well, I guess it’s fine if they’re not angry.
“Tsukuyomi. Could you use your power somewhere where there is somebody next time. You still just started using your powers, so you might fail and hurt yourself”
I looked at Otou-san’s eyes, and I nodded, ‘un‘.
“Nina and others as well, could you try not to take your eyes away from Tsukuyomi as far as possible”
“Understood. We will make sure somebody is always with him”
Aah, I guess I end up being kept on surveillance from here on out. I guess I can no longer do overly flashy things.
I just have to do it in front of Otou-san during the daily training if that’s the case huh. Let’s do that.
I kicked off my psychic ability training in full swing.
