The weekend after the tests ended, we came to the karaoke with the usual four. It ended up screeching because the high-tensioned Renya shouted into the mike, and it hurt my ears.
“Renya, that is noisy”
“Noisy”
“Hey, Renya-kun, let’s calm down?”
“Ah, okay. Sorry”
I can also understand that he is happy that the tests are over, but still, there are lines. After lowering the mike’s volume for the time being, the excited Renya started saying that he’d sing first.
“I’ll go first theーn!”
Renya’s choice was a recently popular song. Maybe because it matches his key as well, he is genuinely good at it. Still, I genuinely find it amazing how he can take the lead at times like these.
“How was it!?”
“It was cool!”
“Re-, really?”
Renya asked for our opinions after he finished singing, but he got embarrassed when Nishikida-san complimented him frankly. It is a space that is suffocating for us just from looking at it.
“Nn, I’ll sing next”
Yae left such two of them behind and started singing. The one the Vocaloid sings is in its original key, but it is a famous song that had even been sung at the New Year’s Eve singing festival. Perhaps Renya knew the song as well, he was clapping to the beat.
Yae skillfully used her head voice on the high pitch portions and finished singing. The points she got are also higher than Renya just now.
“I won”
“Shitt!”
She is making such an easy-to-understand triumphant face that Renya wonders where her usual expressionlessness went. Yae often competes with Renya; I wonder what spurs her on?
“Is it alright for me to go next then?”
“Sure. I haven’t chosen a song to sing yet after all”
It is my turn next since Nishikida-san gave her go-ahead. What I sang was a popular anime opening. It is a female singer’s song, but for me, it is just right with head voice.
My points are barely the national average huh. As I thought, the lesson to take away here is that it is difficult to modulate with the head voice.
“How do I put it; a Kazunari who doesn’t use polite speech sure feels off”
“I kind of understand. Like it feels somewhat fresh”
“Uh-huh uh-huh”
“Yeah. But I did not use polite speech in the past either, you know?”
“Seriously!?”
They are surprised, but it is a given. There is no way I spoke polite speech the whole time ever since I was born, right.
“Yae-chan, really?”
“Uh-huh. But only during elementary school”
“Isn’t that only because he didn’t know the existence of polite speech?”
“Yeah”
They are directing their taken-aback eyes at me, but I am not lying. I really did not use it in the past, roughly more than ten years ago to be exact.
“Well, whatever. I will sing next, alright”
What Nishikida-san said and started singing was a slightly melancholic song. However, her vibrato was compelling, and all three of us were mesmerised.
“……how was it?”
“As I thought, the Committee Chairperson sure is good at singing!”
“Re-, really? Thanks”
Renya compliments Nishikida-san, and she gets embarrassed this time around. I saw a similar sight with the positions switched just now……I wish they wouldn’t flirt that much in front of people.
“It’s my turn again since it went one round then!”
Renya says and starts singing again. A rock-ish song this time around huh. The range he can sing is quite vast.
“Kazu-kun”
“What is the matter?”
“Let’s sing this together next?”
The song Yae said and invited me was a movie song. It is a duet with a man and woman pair. It is a song I know as well, so my answer is obvious.
“Sure. Let’s sing it together”
“Yay. I will take the woman part then”
“I will take the male part”
“Nn, I’m counting on you”
