Almost Summer Break
It has been a week since the ball games tournament ended. That’s right, we are right in the middle of our test week now.
“Ahー, I’m exhaustedー!”
“Hey, do your best and solve that question at least. You can rest after that”
Just like the time during the mid-term tests, we are having a study meet at Yae and my house. And as always, the first one to raised their voice was Renya.
“I will go and prepare some tea then”
“I’ll go and bring some snacks over”
We just right rounded things up as well, so we are entering break time. Well, we’d made some adjustments because we thought that it was about time though.
“Alright, here you go”
“Thanks!”
“Nishikida-san too”
“Sorry for always making you do this”
“No no, please don’t worry about it”
I take a seat after passing it to Yae as well. The snacks Yae brought over are madeleines. They’re the ones I received from Kinuta-san recently.
“This marmalade is delicious!”
“Madeleines. Marmalade is the jam-like thing”
“As expected of Renya-kun, that mix-up is embarrassing, you know?”
“It-, it’s obviously on purpose, right!?”
When I said, ‘You definitely just made a mistake’, Renya blushed in embarrassment. They may sound similar, but they are entirely different things.
“Leaving that aside, I might be able to get average marks this time around!”
“Leave your sleep-talking for when you’re sleeping”
“It ain’t sleep-talking! What image does Nakamatsu-san have of me!?”
Renya did not realise it, but from her expression, Yae was totally just teasing him. It is amusing how he is being played like a fiddle.
“Hey, Yae. Don’t tease him on that too much”
“Nn, sorry”
“So how is it actually?”
“Uーn, it depends on how hard he works, but it seems he may get better than average, you know?”
What a surprise huh. To think that that Renya has reached a level where he can get average marks……
“Why are you asking the Committee Chairperson but not me there?”
“I mean, Nishikida-san is the one with a better grasp of Renya’s academic capability, isn’t she”
“It’s exactly as you said, but you know……”
I feel bad for Renya who slumps his shoulders, but it is the truth. I know you are having her watch over you whenever there is homework recently.
“Ahー, that’s right. Let’s go to a karaoke with the four of us after the tests are over”
“Karaoke?”
“A reward, you know, a reward. So that we can do our best in anticipation of that”
A reward huh. I don’t know how to feel when you are suggesting that yourself, but it is worth a shot if it raises motivation.
“I am fine with it”
“Me too”
“I’m fine with it too. In exchange, let’s do our best until the tests are over, alright”
“Heck yeah! After that, after that, let’s go somewhere to play during summer break!”
Another arrangement to go and play just right after making an arrangement to go and play huh. Although it is Renya-like, there is one important thing.
“Did you forget the fact that we are going to take our entrance exam?”
“Uguh”
That’s right, we are going to take our entrance exams. There is no way we can slack off here when none of us even went to prep school or cram school.
“It’s exactly as Oohata-kun said, but just a few days is fine, isn’t it? Right, Yae-chan?”
“Un. We won’t study continuously for a long time anyway. Especially Renya”
“I guess that is true as well. It is Renya after all”
“It went as I wished, but it doesn’t sit well with me……”
We previously promised to study together during summer break, but we have not decided on anything concrete yet. In that case, I think it is fine for there to be days that we study in the morning and play in the afternoon.
“Let’s think about it again when it is summer break. It may be almost summer break, but we have to do our best for our end-of-term tests for now”
“Nn, exactly”
“I guess it’s about time to finish our break and get started then. Hey, Renya-kun, you take out your textbook as well”
“Aーight……”
It’s almost June. In other words, it will be summer break right after our end-of-term tests finish. I wonder how our last summer break of high school will play out.
