Studying For Tests ③
It has been slightly over a week since we decided that we will study together during summer vacation with Renya and the others. I am studying alone with Renya today.
“AhーーI’m exhaustedーーーー”
“Good work. How does it feel after giving it a go?”
“Uーn. I think I won’t fail, but I don’t know!”
The test has already started, and today marked the end of six subjects. Renya is doing his best every day despite running on empty. In any case, it is probably all thanks to her that he has managed to come this far.
“You have to be grateful to Nishikida-san huh”
“Really. I guess I’ll buy her a cake or something next time. Ah, of course, I’m grateful to you and Nakamatsu-san as well, you know?”
“I know”
He says, but as I thought, it is thanks to Nishikida-san. He has not said something like, ‘I think I won’t fail’, until now after all. Renya himself might not remember it though.
I had taught him up until last year, but it took all I had to reduce the number of subjects he failed, and I could not give him that much confidence. It is something to be happy about, but it is frustrating huh.
“Rather, where are the two of them today?”
“Did you not hear? It seems those two have their final volley club tournament this weekend. That’s why they should be staying behind in school and practising around this time”
“Is that so!”
According to Yae, it seems to be the inter-high school’s prefecture preliminary. I want her to do her best since she had been more motivated than usual.
“Hey, are you going to go and cheer them on?”
“Yes. I have also told Yae so”
“In that case, can I go as well!?”
Renya asks me with eyes full of anticipation, but his objective is clear. He probably purely wants to cheer on the volleyball club……or rather, wants to cheer on Nishikida-san.
“I think it will likely be fine but……is it not better to ask Nishikida-san just in case?”
“Wh, why the Committee Chairperson!?”
“No, I was sure that you want to go and cheer her¹ on”
“She’s, she’s not my girlfriend, you know!?”
No, I used ‘her’ as a pronoun to refer to Nishikida-san, not ‘her’ in the meaning of a lover though. Is he misunderstanding something……fufufu……
“Ah, you bloody tricked me huh, Kazunari!!”
“I wonder what you are talking about. More importantly, say it properly by yourself”
“Ugugu……”
You are pulling your hair out, but please do your best in that at least. It is definitely better than you going to cheer her on arbitrarily after all.
“Nevertheless, I am glad that my relationship with Yae got exposed at times like these”
“Nn? Why?”
“I could not even go and cheer Yae on for the sake of hiding the relationship with Yae until recently. If I were to go and cheer her on and somebody found out, or somebody was to catch sight of it, they will definitely dig deeper, wouldn’t they”
“Aah. I suppose that’s true”
“But now they know that Yae is the reason even if I were to go and cheer them on, and we will probably not receive any weird teasing either. Everybody will think, ‘Ah, her family member came to cheer her on huh’ after all”
The fact that Yae and I are living together has been spread throughout the school year, perhaps even throughout the school. That’s why there is no problem even if I go to cheer the volleyball club on. I guess that is what they call a blessing in disguise?
“They might think you came to support your girlfriend, you know?”
“I have said tiringly much that we are not dating, that we are not in that kind of relationship, so it will be fine. Everybody understands”
“Wellー, I wonder if you keep saying that because your everyday actions are bad?”
I don’t really understand what Renya is saying. It may look like this, but I believe we are living our student lives morally though.
“Uwa, you’re making a face saying that you don’t get it from the bottom of your heart……it’s the hat trick² of holding hands and going to school every day, being together pretty much all the time during lunch break, and going ‘aーn’ with your lunch box ingredients, you know?”
“It is a given if you are a family, right?”
“No, you guys are……whatever. For now, let’s study for tomorrow”
Renya mutters like he gave up and starts doing the worksheets. I have completely no idea why he reacted like that to me, but it is a good thing that he is studying. Let’s make sure to overcome the remaining tests as well.
