Sports Day ②
It is lunch-break, and we are eating lunch with the usual four of us, but my mood is as good as it has ever been. I am in such a great mood that there is an airy feeling by my feet.
“Kazu-kun, you look happy”
“Yeah. It is the first time I got first place in something sports-related, so I am quite happy”
“It’s the first time for you!?”
“Isn’t that a given”
Renya is surprised, but I wonder what he has been watching for these past three years. It is not something to be proud of, but I have been bad at sports and hated it since I was young, so I am perpetually last even for the races during sports day and such.
“Nevertheless, Yae-chan’s start was quick too huh. Did you know that you will be called?
“I didn’t know whether or not I’ll be called. But I made sure that I’m ready to go at any time”
I came up with a plan with Yae the day I heard that it might not be a scavenger hunt for items, but a scavenger hunt for people. Although I say that, it is something simple where other than when the conditions are like,「a girl who wears spectacles」, or,「a girl who has long hair」, or otherwise「a boy who 〇〇」 which I cannot choose Yae, Yae will rush over when I call out「Yae」though.
“Nevertheless, I was surprised; who would’ve thought that the person being scavenged for would go to the scavenger by herself. It appears that there were protests as well, saying whether or not it’s against the rules, but it seems they dismissed all of them, saying that it doesn’t break any rule”
“They have to add a line, ‘the runner has to head to the other person during the scavenging’, into the rules huh”
“You sure are talking about it irritatingly calmly. You did it, knowing everything, right?”
“Of course. Grey is not black after all”
In a typical scavenger hunt, the borrower goes all the way to where the lender is and borrows the item they want to borrow. However, it is not scavenging for items, but scavenging for people this time around. So since you can also call the other party over, I thought it was logical to have Yae, who is faster on her feet than me, to head over here.
Furthermore, for the sake of not dragging us down, I read the rules extensively, took the teachers’ mentality into account, and searched for the line that will not be deemed out. I would have been shocked regardless of the placing if I was disqualified because of this.
“I guess the fact that you have to properly go all the way to the audience seats will be added into the conditions from next year onwards? Well, it does not concern us since we should not be around though”
“Kazunari sure has a good personality huh”
“Please stop praising me”
“I ain’t praising you”

, I wonder if it was no good to had been so jolly. I ended up tripping a whole lot during the first event in the afternoon, which is the long rope jumping with the whole class. I was once again reminded that, as I thought, I am hopeless at sports……
“GoーMurayamaー!! Show them your muscles!!”
Murayama-kun, who is the strongest not just in the class, but the school year, and who clads his body with an armour of muscle, is contributing a lot in the cavalry battle that is currently taking place. While supporting the rider with that overwhelming power of his, he is going about destroying the opponent’s cavalry’s balance. Ah, the last cavalry collapsed huh.
“Huh, was the cavalry battle a fight to take down the opponent’s cavalry?”
“It’s not. I think it’s inevitable to think so when you see how he was just now though……”
There were no headbands or anything huh. Whatever it is, good work, not just to Murayama-kun, but the other three people as well.
Since the chivalry battle also ended, the only one remaining is the interclass relay huh. It will solidify our overall victory if both genders get first place in this event, so everybody is all the more pumped up. I too shall take plenty of photos while doing my best cheering them on since Renya will participate in the boy’s component and Yae in the girl’s for this.
Now then. The first and second-year students are done, and it is finally the third-year students’ turn. Partially also because it is the final event, the cheering is resounding intensely. But our class will not lose either when it comes to cheering!
“Renya-kun! Do your best!!”
Renya, the final runner, is currently in third place. He is pretty much side by side with the second place, and his gap with the first place is not big either. In this case, he might be able to do it!
“Renya, please do your best on the last spurt!”
Perhaps he had saved his strength for the end; he speeds up before the final curve. He overtakes the first place and heads towards the goal in one go. Renya, he got the first place!! Joyous voices are overflowing from the class as well!
“Furthermore, the pictures too……”
I, who was standing by in front of the goal, managed to take a magnificent photo of the moment Renya severs the goal tape and the moment he celebrates with the other relay members. Let’s share it later. Renya, and all the relay members, really, good work.
