Through The Night And Into The Day
“Sor, sorry. Falling asleep without permission”
“Nn? I don’t mind. You’ve probably been exhausted. Were you able to rest well?”
“Yes, thanks to Chrono-san. Thank you”
Shertia, the young silver-haired girl, bows to me while saying. It was yesterday night that she told me that although she seemed to have had a family name as well previously, it was lost when her family collapsed.
After I saved Shertia, we searched for an inn that’ll serve us even when it’s late at night. Naturally, an inn that’s operating until so late has terrible public order, terrible services, filthy, and doesn’t have any good going for it, but we can’t complain.
We clean the room with magic; for our meals, I take out ingredients from the Magic Tool that I made, an Item Pouch that has a larger capacity than it looks; and if anybody suspicious approaches, I just have to deal with them. After all, I’m a Wraith so I’m fine even if I don’t sleep.
“……What is that used for?”
As I’m concentrating on my palm, Shertia peeks in at it. It isn’t anything compromising so it’s alright though.
“This is a Magic Tool for self-defense use. Its name is the Magic Sword of Aquatic Onslaught. I made it for Shertia, who can use Water Magic, to use, so here you go”
I hand over the finished shortsword, that carries blue magic power, to Shertia. Shertia opens her eyes widely and looks at me and the shortsword alternately. I wonder what’s wrong?
“Eh? For, for me? Tha, that is such a waste! I am incapable of using something like a sword!”
“It’s alright, you don’t have to wield it as a sword. This sword is using a magic crystal with ‘Splash Blade’ magic. So just by pouring magic power into this shortsword, you’ll be able to cast a fairly powerful magic.
It’s just that, I’ve made it power-oriented so you can only use it up to 3 times. However, you don’t have to be frugal with it. It’ll be meaningless if you got injured and died because you were frugal with it, even though it’s something specially for you to protect yourself with. Besides, if it’s something of that degree, if there are shortswords, I can make as many as I like. Here, spare ones”
I hand over 2 more identical shortswords to Shertia. Shertia bewilderedly accepted it.
In a soft voice, she was muttering, “I think 1 shortsword has the value of several pieces of gold coins though……”. With 3 gold coins, a thrifty family can almost provide for a family of 4 for a year. A shortsword that I made in my spare time is worth several pieces of gold coins huh.
“Anyway, don’t be unwilling to use it. It’s fine to use it if you’re faced with danger”
“Yes, thank you ve『Guu~~~』aah……”
Shertia, who accepted the shortswords, blushes in embarrassment from the sudden growl of her stomach. It’s something that couldn’t be helped so she didn’t have to worry about it though.
I hand over a bread that I bought in advance to Shertia. Although it’s become slightly tough, it can be eaten normally. Shertia was also eating without worrying about it.
Only the sound of Shertia chewing on the bread is reverberating inside the room, and after a while, Shertia talks to me about what happened to her bit by bit. It’s something I’d also thought of asking so I stop my work and look at Shertia. From the perspective of me, somebody who had cherished his little sister, there were some unforgivable details in Shertia’s story.
