The Story Of A Certain Adventurer Second (4)
“Sorry, let me meet with the Guild Master”
“Dori-san. It sure is rare for Dori-san to meet with the Guild Master. Did something happen?”
“Aah, slightly”
“Understood, please hold on for a moment”
Dori-san, the leader of the party that climbed up from below when we were fighting, converses with the receptionist. It’s already night time, and the bar, that’s established beside the guild, is bustling with Adventurers who finished their work.
Legins is looking enviously at the bar, but that comes afterwards. We have to talk about what happened in the dungeon first after all.
A short while after the receptionist heard what Dori-san had to say and went to where the Guild Master is, the receptionist along with a stern middle-aged man and a young man showed up.
“Yo, Dori. It sure is rare for you to visit me, isn’t it. What do you need?”
“Sorry, Boss. There’s a slight problem. Is it convenient to talk?”
“……kaa, it’d be great if it isn’t about something troublesome. Come here”
Dori-san hears the Guild Master’s words and follows behind him. As we were waiting, wondering what’s going on, we were told to send just the leader, so I join in.
Inside the Guild Master’s office is the Guild Master, the young man, along with Dori-san, as well as, the receptionist and me. The Guild Master plops down on the opposite side, and Dori-san and I sit side by side. The young man stands behind the Guild Master, and the receptionist stands by the door.
“So what happened?”
“Aah, go ahead and talk about it”
Dori-san threw the conversation to me. I guess that makes sense. I’m the person involved after all. After that, I proceed to talk about what happened inside the dungeon to the Guild Master.
Initially, the Guild Master was listening to the conversation normally, but he gradually started frowning. Like what Dori-san said, the Guild Master too said that it’s still impossible for the Crimson Reaper, that shows up on the lower floors, to appear on the third floor, the higher floors.
“It’s unnecessary for those fellows below to go up. The miasma below is thicker after all. If it’s those fellows above going down then so be it, but for those fellows below to be climbing up……don’t tell me”
Over there, the Guild Master raises his voice like he realised something. I don’t know what it is, but after a short while, it seems Dori-san realised as well.
“We have to gather Adventurers and explore the inside of the dungeon once huh. Shit, even though we’ve been thinning them out”
“Aah, even though we’ve been killing the monsters and making sure that the miasma doesn’t accumulate. Tsk, it turned into something troublesome”
“……Guild Master, what exactly is going on?”
The receptionist, who could no longer follow their conversation, asks the Guild Master. It came at the right time since I was just about to ask as well.
“The youngsters don’t know since it hasn’t happened recently huh. A dungeon has a ‘maximum capacity’ as well. A limit on the number of monsters that can be held. It’s us, Adventurers, who make sure that they don’t grow beyond that boundary”
“And when it exceeds that maximum capacity?”
“Nobody knows yet. But, what do you think will happen if it exceeds the maximum capacity? Just imagine the result of pouring water into a cup continuously”
“The water will naturally overflow from the c……don’t tell me”
“Aah, exactly what you’re thinking. The monsters will overflow from the dungeon that could no longer contain them completely. In order for it to not end up like that, we create guilds near the dungeons, and have Adventurers dive in and thin out the monsters. And then, we’ll provide incentives to the Adventurers by purchasing the raw materials and magic stones that they acquired. That’s how it functions but……it blew past it this time around”
“It’s not verified yet though. Boss, how many Adventurers can you assemble? We’ll survey the dungeon once with that”
“About three groups if it’s of you guys’ level; for those that are currently in this town. I can’t call from elsewhere even if I try, since because of what the Empire said, they’ve bloody gone over there”
“Three groups huh. Five groups, including us. Well, I guess it’ll work out somehow if it’s just surveying”
Before I know it, even our party was included……but I guess I can’t complain now that it has come down to this. However, we sure came at an unlucky timing.
After that, the discussion became about the expedition in the dungeon, and our party, Dori-san’s party, and three other parties were commissioned for the urgent request by the guild.
Since the guild said they’ll provide us with all the necessities, I suppose we just have to prepare for the rest until the day of the expedition, two days later.
We, who left the Guild Master’s office, return to our respective party and explain the situation. By the way, it’s decided that this will be kept within our parties. It’s because they can’t alarm the people around with information that’s not verified yet.
It’s just that, they were saying that they’ll talk to the Town Mayor about it. In order to evacuate the residents when push comes to shove.
“Again, we are caught up into something awful”
“But, it can’t be helped huh. It starts two days later, right?”
“Aah, sorry, everybody. For deciding it as I please”
Everybody shakes their head at my words. It’s just that, Legins was the only one lamenting, ‘I wonder if I can drink during that time’, though. Well, give it up.
The dungeon’s expedition. It’d be great if I’m worrying needlessly, but I have a hunch that I’m not.
